Great Kayaking experience with fantastic scenery
What a great way to spend a few hours. Our host/guide, Thea was fantastic. The views of the area were some of the best, away from crowds and paddling where we wanted to go at our own pace. We never felt rushed and had some good conversation. Communication and transport from the area of the cruise port and back were all great. This is a definite must do for those both experienced or beginning kayakers.

Had a wonderful day Kayaking - picked up from the cruise ship and headed back down the fjord about 8 minutes, meaning that when we got out of the water we had the whole of the fjord to ourselves. Couldn’t fault the service or the information provided before we went. Trip made for my husband when the dolphins appeared!

What a great experience!
Had a great kayak experience hosted by Lynn. As beginners, it was great to be able to take at our own pace and really soak in the beautiful views. All directions, pick up and organisation really smooth. Would highly recommend wouldn't hesitate to book with them again when returning. Much better than the cruise organised kayak tour.

We had an amazing time visiting Olden and our other stops in Norway. My highlight of our holiday is Kayaking with your colleague (who's name I cannot spell). She was fabulous. Despite the rain, I am glad we booked it with you. We certainly will recommend you to others.

Guides

Åshild and Marie are two lively girls, newly graduated structural engineers. Åshild means God+Strife. Maries first name is non-viking, but she is also Norwegian. When not in the kayak, they climb mountains in the area. As guides, they look forward to showing you the turquoise waters and spectacular scenery of Olden.

Oddbjørn has been instructor at Scandinavias largest Guide school, Service&Co since 2011 and is the Founder of Discover Olden. He kayaks every day from april to November. Oddbjørn means Weapon tip+Bear. His passion is nature, sports – and creating great memories for his guests and readers of his books.

Anders and Karen are Danish vikings ready to warmly welcome you. Anders has a background in anthropology and ecology and is always curious about cultures and sustainability. Karen is a green engineer with a keen interest in foraging in nature and swimming anywhere possible, all year round.

Questions and answers

It’s a 7 minute drive from port of Olden. We offer hassle free transport – see details.

Yes, we have a large and free parking area. The largest vehicle we accommodated this year was a 10-meter long camper.

Yes. Tell us some days before, and we will offer options. We never serve alcohol and seafood. Tell us if you cannot eat eggs, meat, milk, wheat.

Quite often in the summer, but it depends on the weather conditions.

Please wear comfortable clothing. Wetsuits are not necessary for this activity. I normally wear a t-shirt and shorts. If it is cold for some reason, or rain, I wear wool t-shirt and sometimes even a jacket.

We are a 5 minute drive from Olden center. We will send you address and directions instantly after booking.

Yes, we have free private parking for you.

In the waterproof room in the kayaks, or inside your car or in our house. Drybag is not necessary, since the kayaks have waterproof rooms. But we do have 3 waterproof bags if you really want to borrow 🙂

A primitive toilet is available, but we recommend visiting a bathroom before you arrive. This gives us more time to kayak.

About the Kayaks

Yes, kids older than 5 will normally enjoy kayaking. For kids 5 years old and up to 10/11-years it’s normally best with a double kayak. Let the kid sit in the front seat. The double kayak works fine, even if the kid stops paddling. I have often kayaked for hours, without any help from the kid in the front, he was just relaxing. Kids older than 10 will often handle one of the single kayaks.

Yes, you may bring your dog and the price is the same as for a human. However, if you have not kayaked with your dog before, we recommend that you do so on a small lake when the weather and water are at their warmest. Check out the video and read more about a Japanese Spitz that kayaked with us last year. If you are skilled, you might be better with renting kayaks, for flexibility.

Yes, the Boreal Design Ookpik is well-suited for tall (195+ cm) and large paddlers. Please let us know in advance, so we can have it set aside for you.

We have ten single kayaks and three double kayaks. See pictures at the bottom of this page.

Only if you have kayak certificate and experience, because it’s safer without. We have 2 spray skirts (if available). Most guests will not get wet on the legs/lap. Some get a drops off water on legs/lap.

Yes. We have many vests, from 15 kilos up to 90+. Vest, paddle and map are always included.

In the waterproof room in the kayaks, or inside your car or in our house. Drybag is not necessary, since the kayaks have waterproof rooms. But we do have 3 waterproof bags if you really want to borrow 🙂
